Revenu Québec is tackling tax evasion losses in the construction sector, which amount to $1.5 billion a year.

Revenu Québec has been pulling out all the stops lately to tackle tax evasion in Quebec’s construction sector. To achieve this, a number of actions were implemented, such as regular visits to construction sites, and unannounced interventions on worksites with partners such as the CCQ, RBQ, and CNESST.

These activities will enable Revenu Québec to recover over $200 million annually, in addition to actions resulting in convictions and prison sentences.

You too can fight tax evasion in this sector by checking that the contractor you hire holds a valid RBQ license, by requiring a proper contract that includes the contractor’s GST/HST/QST numbers, and by asking for an invoice for services rendered.
